Arvixe Hosting Review

Arvixe is a company that prides itself on providing the most reliable product and the best possible support, no matter. Founded 2003 and currently employing over 130 staff, they’re one of the fastest growing hosting companies in the world (after all, their founder made Inc.’s 30 under 30 list three years in a row).

Prices starting at $3.27/Month

Shared hosting

Arvixe has a two tier option for their shared hosting (for both their Linux and Windows servers). All shared servers come with a fairly standard offering of unlimited disk space, data transfers, cPanel control, unlimited sub domains, FTP accounts, and compatibility with a wide range of website editors like Dreamweaver.

However, their shared plans do come with some excellent features that might make it worth the slightly higher price tag of $4. Specifically:

  • RVSiteBuilder and CloudFlare CDN come pre-installed, providing a turn-key solution to those who want a website in a hurry
  • Multiple server location all over the world (US, Europe, and Hong Kong)
  • Attracta SEO pre-installed
  • Free domain for life (most plans offer free for a year)

Pro servers only have a quarter of the accounts on each one, so individual accounts have access to far more processing power, are more reliable, and generally perform better.

VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting

VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting together comprise the other major section of Arvixe’s offering. VPS is seen by them as a “stepping stone between shared hosting and [their] dedicated server option.”

They’ve split their VPS out across a couple of tiers: VPS Class Lite, VPS Class, and VPS Pro. These range from$20 to $70 per month. Their Lite option comes with 20GB dedicated disk space, 2 CPU cores, and 1 IP address. These run on either CentOS or Windows Server 2012 OS.  It also includes a free SSL certificate, you can choose your server location, and Arvixe will employ Hyper-V technology to keep your dedicated server space truly dedicated to you.

However, the light option is sorely lacking in several critical areas, particularly MySQL. Specifically, the Lite plans doesn’t include any MySQL or PostgreSQL databases nor does it include a variety of basic programming languages like PHP 5, Perl, and Python.

Their more expensive tiered options include essentially everything that their shared options include like RVSiteBuilder (but the Pro version), CloudFlare CDN, Attracta SEO, MySQL and PostgreSQL, with both phpMyAdmin and phpPgAdmin, plus cPanel control.

Avrixe’s dedicated and reseller servers offer a huge range of customization, either as bare metal servers or cloud servers. Their bare metal dedicated option starts at $429 for a Dual Intel Xeon Processor E5620 (12M Cache, 2.40 GHz), 12 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, but these options are entirely customizable.

Basically, Avrixe will work to assemble the perfect server for you, which pushes their customer service a cut above when it comes to dedicated hosting.

They also offer cloud hosting from $108 per month for 150GB dedicated disk space, 4GB dedicated memory, 8 CPU cores, and unlimited data transfers. All of their cloud hosting is fully managed for you in and run on Dual Intel Xeon-Westmere 5670-Hexcore [2.93GHz].

MySQL

Arvixe is incredibly willing to bend and change to work with developers, and that flexibility is most pronounced in their SQL database. Triggers and events from applications are no problem for Arvixe. They run the latest versions of both MySQL and PostgreSQL as well as both phpMyAdmin and phpPgAdmin. For security, they run Apache and MySQL on their servers without any reverse proxying to reduce the need for SSL.

They’re basically a MySQL total solution.

They also support both the InnoBD Storage Engine as well as the MyISAM Engine, and allow remote access to MySQL databases. They’re even willing to try and change MySQL’s configuration on shared servers, so long as it’s not an intrusive configuration. The only real limits to Avrixe’s MySQL product is the natural 10GB limit per database set by MySQL themselves.

Finally, they have pages and pages of blog posts about MySQL, not to mention a fully searchable support database for specific questions regarding MySQL.

For developer flexibility and those looking for as much control as possible Arvixe is the place to go for MySQL.
